Chuck Pagano was born in Boulder, Colorado in October 1960. He was a four year letterman as a strong safety at Fairview High School and again at Wyoming.
Pagano became a graduate assistant at Southern California from 1984 to 1985 and then at Miami in 1986. He became linebackers coach at Boise State from 1987 to 1988 and then served as defensive backs coach at East Carolina in 1989. From 1990 to 1991 he was defensive backs coach and defensive coordinator for UNLV.
Pagano worked as a defensive backs and linebackers coach for East Carolina from 1992 to 1994. He returned to Miami where he was a defensive backs and special teams coach from 1995 to 2000. Pagano worked his way up to the NFL where he was a secondary coach for the Cleveland Browns from 2001 to 2004.
From 2005 to 2006 he was a defensive backs coach for the Oakland Raiders. He returned to the college ranks in 2007 as defensive coordinator for North Carolina. From 2008 to 2011 he coached for the Baltimore Ravens where he worked with the secondary and as defensive coordinator.
