List Of All Cult Groups In Nigerian Universities And Their Symbols

Over the years, the issue of cultism has been an unending problem in the Nigerian universities and other higher institutions and the street of Nigeria. Ordinarily, a cult is a group or sect bound together by veneration of the same thing, person, ideal. Cult is a group of people with the same aim and goal but in Nigeria reverse is the case.

A cult in Nigeria has a bad reputation due to their recurring violence, People now see Cult group in Nigeria simply as a group of people with bad intentions, whose views and ethics which are mischievous are best known to them. Member to a cult group are dangerous and prone to violence in any slightest anger. On 22 September 2008, the Nigerian Ministry of Education indicated that there has been an upsurge of cult-related violence in tertiary institutions across Nigeria (Nigeria 22 Sept. 2008).

Without wasting too much of your time with too many talk, we shall be discussing the various cult group in the Nigeria Universities and their symbol.

List Of All Cult Groups In Nigerian Universities And Their Symbols

In no particular order, below are the list of all cult group in Nigeria Universities today. It should be noted that Pyrate Confraternity was the first cult group to be established in Nigeria.

Pyrate Confraternity

As we have already mentioned, it is the first “secret cult” in the Nigerian University System. Its two main symbols are a skull, two cross-bones and an anchor. The cult’s purposes are: “against expiring convention, tribalism, for humanistic ideas and partnership and knighthood.”But their hay days soon ended when the Buccaneers branched out from them.


Buccaneers Association Of Nigeria

Established by the Bolaji Carew, the Buccaneers came to be very mighty and become the major rival to their mother “Pyrate Confraternity” (because they were splintered from them).

In 1972, Bolaji Crew and some others were expelled from the Pyrates. A major impetus for the creation of the new confraternities was the fact that members of the new groups simply did not meet the high academic and intellectual standards set by the Seadogs, and thus considered the original organization to be elitist. Carew was the founder of the Buccaneers Confraternity or as it also called the National Associations of Sea Lords. Now you may understand why their symbols and ceremonies are so alike to the Seadogs’.

Black Axe Confraternity

The Black Axe confraternity, also known as the Neo-Black Movement of Africa the group was created during the 1977-1978 academic year by nine University of Benin undergraduates who were concerned about the “plight of the Black Man” (NBM). Their symbol is black axe breaking chain between two fist, and their color are black and yellow.

Supreme Eiye Confraternity

The Supreme Eiye Confraternity are also known as National association of air-lord, this cult group was founded in Nigeria in 1965, it was found by the university of Ibadan Students. These student aspired for self improvement and was dismissive to other cultism. However their color are blue and their symbol are bird, black skull with two crossed bone.

Supreme Vikings Confraternity

The supreme Vikings are also known as the Norsemen or the National association of adventurers club of Nigeria. The cult group was formed by three young men who where a former member of the Buccaneers at the university of Port Harcourt. Members of this group are called Vultures, Aro-mate, Adventurers and their slang are blood on the high sea, singing song of Hoja, Never to hang a let, Even in the face of death.

Mafia Confraternity

The Mafia Confraternity is also known as family fraternity or Cio songs. its roots originated from the virtue of Italian and American mafia. Affiliated to its activity, the members invented the following rules: parties, secrets, and revenge against oppression.

Eternal Fraternal Order Of Legion Consortium

Eternal Fraternal Order Of Legion Consortium was established by five students at the university of Calabar, in 1983, during the Military era. Members of this group worship demon called Ogor, they are symbolize by human skull.

Woman Community Cult Groups

Well, women’s communities, such as “Viqueens”, “Black Bra”, “the Damselalso”, and “Daughters of Jezebel” were also founded by students. By the way, their ideology is grounded on already existing men’s brotherhoods. Usually, they were just girlfriends or colleagues of members of the “secret cults”.

Female cultism includes representatives of the female gender, who come together to reach their sacred goals or for other special objectives. They often meet in forests or other remote locations, make circles, sing songs and read out some spells and invocations. As for the female cultism in Nigeria, it should be mentioned that a large number of people have affirmed that they are a part of such female gatherings and their participation in their activities.
