The California born swimmer, Amanda Beard is a seven-time Olympic medalist. Besides, she has won two gold medals, four silver ones, and one bronze medal in her entire career.
Beard is a former world record in the 200-meter breaststroke. She is a winner of 21 medals in major international competition; 5 gold, 13 silver, and 3 bronze. These competitions include the World Championships, the Pan Pacific Championships and the Summer Universiade.

As she was growing up, her mother, Gayle, always encouraged her and gave her all the support she needed. Beard attended Irvine High School and while at school, she reports having mild dyslexia conditions which caused her not to have a great academic performance at school.
She decided to major in athletics, especially swimming since previously she used to enjoy watching her two sisters practice for the local team; that was when she was young. Amanda enjoyed it so much that she joined the team herself in 1986 and excelled at the sport and ended up joining the Irvine Novaquatics in 1994.
Beard achieved an athletic scholarship to the University of Arizona. She began struggling with bulimia nervosa. She was always stressed when she wore a swimsuit in front of others as well as when she saw her photoshopped ads. This caused a great desire for her to have a body that matched those that had been photoshopped.

She always encouraged me through her support. She regularly attended my meets and competitions and knowing that she was there gave me the extra motivation I needed to try my best every time. I mirror how my mom motivated me with my son, Blaise, so he believes he can do anything he puts his mind to.
How has having a child changed your life?
My son has made me see everything differently. Having him altered my perspective on life in general, in addition to my attitude about swimming. Before I became a mom, I stressed out about the little things, but now Blaise occupies every free second I have! He’s taught me what really matters—I’m more focused on important things now.
